Deep South Center for Environmental Justice

Founded in 1992, the Deep South Center for Environmental Justice works to improve the lives of community members harmed by pollution and vulnerable to climate change through research and policy studies, community and student engagement, and health and safety training for environmental careers.

Service Type: Campaign strategy, social media strategy, graphic design, video production, audience research, outreach planning

Project: Digital media and outreach campaign to launch a grant cycle funded by a $2.4 million award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Gulf of Mexico Division

Challenge: The Center had federal dollars to move and a short window to move them. Grant funds were designed to build capacity in environmental justice communities across coastal Louisiana parishes, but the organizations best positioned to use that money were often the ones least connected to formal grant channels. The campaign had to reach past the usual applicant pool and make a complex funding opportunity feel accessible.

Solution: We built a cohesive campaign designed to drive applications, not just impressions. That included graphic design across platforms, text- and image-based public service announcement videos, and a comprehensive content calendar paired with a channel-by-channel social strategy. Alongside the creative, we delivered a research report identifying specific target organizations across the coastal parishes and an outreach plan for reaching them directly, so the Center's team could pair broad awareness with targeted, one-to-one recruitment.
